The Grand Tour

Jungles, history and great riding!

Leaving your hotel, we head to the mountains for a taste of ethnic minority life, before traversing the Ho Chi Minh Highway, following it through the A Shau valley, passing Hamburger Hill before climbing to the infamous Khe Sanh. At Khe Sanh, the remains of Ta Con Airbase are to be seen, an eerie runway and numerous relics of the war remind us of the devastation caused during the American war. It’s a truly moving experience.

The next day, prepare yourself for the ride of your life! Taking the Ho Chi Minh Highway north of Khe Sanh, we follow Highway 20 through thick old growth rainforest before a stark landscape change, to the immense beauty of limestone karsts leading the path to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park: UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of the worlds largest cave, truly one of the last wildernesses in Vietnam.

We spend the night a local homestay, enjoying the quiet tranquility of the mountains, and remembering what promises to be an incredible ride. We then spend the next day exploring the national park, visiting South East Asias longest cave, numerous relics of the war and a swim in the ice cold rivers of the national park.

Day 5 sees us take the Ho Chi Minh Highway East to the Vinh Moc tunnels for another dose of history and awe at the ingenuity of the Vietnamese people. The tour takes a leisurely pace along the coast roads before arriving at the ancient capital of Hue for the night. The next day we rise to take a casual tour around the city, including the citadel, the tombs of Emperor Ming Mang and a few of Hues magical pagodas!

After another relaxing evening in Hue, we wake to get back on the road again, for a final, casual ride back towards Danang. Following deserted coastal roads, riding around beautiful lakes, stopping for photographs before tackling the incredible Hai Van Pass.
